Mustang is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area, and from 2000 to 2015 the population increased by almost 35%. The resulting plan is a highly visual and easily understood document serving as a day-to-day policy guide.
The plan used scenario alternatives to consider roadway and land use strategies to enhance the community. The planning team also addressed the critical issue that became evident in the community meetings – there is no one place the residents consider “Downtown” Mustang. The plan recommends a village center (downtown) location, and Mustang is now actively seeking developers to implement the proposed village center. Through a broad process of public engagement (including a citizen survey with nearly 1,000 respondents), the planning team facilitated meetings with a steering committee, stakeholder groups, and the public at large, to define and articulate an overall vision and roadmap for the future of Mustang.
